GM seeking other GM's for 4-part harmonies... Fun-loving, people-oriented, enjoys vocal music of all types. Wants to meet others to share in artistic endeavors, social activities, community service, and mischievous fun.
Does this ad apply to you? If so, please consider joining the North Coast Men's Chorus. Rehearsals for the new season are held Sundays, 7:15 9:30 p.m. at Judson Manor, 1890 E. 107th St. (just north of Chester).
Variety and excitement characterize our '92-93 season, as the Chorus explores alternative programming formats. For example, in March, we'll take our audience back in time to a 50's style sock hop, performing popular music from the 50's through the 80's (letter sweaters, poodle skirts, bell bottoms, love beads, earth shoes, platforms, sprayed/teased/greased hair all optional and encouraged). In June, we'll present our first stage musical (we sing, we dance, we act, we do it all). Of course we'll be back in our

Watch out for more homophobia on the airwaves as WKYC, Channel 3 has added arch-conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh to its lineup of TV talk shows starting Tuesday at 1:35 a.m. Rush Limbaugh is infamous for his vitriolic attacks on our community and its issues on his radio talk show.
Howard Stern, the controversial New York radio and TV host, has introduced his notorious Lesbian Dating Game segment to Cleveland on his 6:00 to 10:00 a.m. morning talk show on WNCX 98.5 FM. The Lesbian Dating Game does not appear on every show; you might want to monitor his show and form your own opinion
The September 12 edition of TV Guide reports that the story of Aileen Wuornos, a lesbian convicted of killing seven men she reportedly picked up as a prostitute and currently the only woman on death row in the United States, is the subject of Overkill, an upcoming CBS made-for-TV film. Overkill, which has not been scheduled for air time yet, will star Empty Nest's Park Overall as Ms. Wuornos.
The September 11 edition of Entertainment Weekly ran a story on Basic Instinct screenwriter Joe Eszterhas' soon-to bereleased new film: Layers of Skin. Written in answer to criticisms from the lesbian, gay and bisexual community about Basic Instinct's portrayal of a bisexual woman as a murderer, Layers of Skin features a lesbian detective as the film's protagonist.
Also featured in this edition of Entertainment Weekly is a profile of Scott Thomp son, the openly gay comedian in the Kids in the Hall comedy troupe. Scott Thompson frequently plays "Buddy," a gay bar owner and philosopher on being gay. The Kids in
tuxedos (our gay apparel) and on the risers for our traditional holiday concert this December.
We start our fifth season building upon the foundation and success of the previous year. Last season was our most ambitious season yet, presenting three major concerts and performing for several community events. Our June Pride concert with Romanovsky & Phillips received rave reviews and played to a full house. We continue to grow musically as existing members return and talented new members join.
Although we take our music seriously, we also know how to have fun! Parties, field trips and other social events are held throughout the year. "Coffee houses" are held once a month, following rehearsal, as a means for members to get to know one another.
For those of you that do not sing but want to be a part of the group, consider becoming a member of the Chorus Auxiliary. An active performing group such as the Chorus cannot exist without the many dedicated volunteers who perform vital, support-related tasks.
We are always searching for men to join us in song. If you are interested, come to our next rehearsal. If you have any questions, call us at 473-8919 or write to NCMC, P.O. Box 15181, Cleveland, OH 44115

the Hall show, which features many other gay-themed skits, can be seen on cable's Comedy Network on Saturdays at 11 p.m. The show is reportedly also now on CBS on Fridays from 12:30 to 1:30a.m. At this time I do not know if WJW Channel 8, the local CBS outlet, will air the show. Call them at 431-8888 and ask.
I contacted WVIZ Channel 25 Program Manager Bob Olive to check on the status of the new, national gay TV show, In the Life, being offered to PBS outlets. Mr. Olive stated that they had been having some difficulty in locating a preview tape and had not had a chance to review the show yet. He did say that they have a promising lead on a tape copy and hope to review it soon. Thanks if you have already called to ask for the show. If you haven't contacted them yet, it's not too late to show your support. Contact WVIZ, Channel 25 at 398-2800 or write to Mr. Robert Olive, Program Director, WVIZ, 4300 Brookpark Road, Cleveland, OH 44134.
Check out Megan, a new, ongoing lesbian character along with her lover and friends, on the new ABC sitcom, Arresting Behavior. It airs on Channel 5 Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m.
GLAAD, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, recently listed firms that have supported gay programming content as well as those that have pulled their advertising from gay-themed shows. Levi Strauss and Co. and Naya Bottled Water were praised for their corporate support of our community. On the negative side, however, American Home Products, makers of Advil, Anacin, Dimetapp, Dristan, Denorex, ChapStick, Jiffy Pop and Chef Boyardee products, as well as General Motors, Gilette, and Bristol-Myers were singled out for dropping their advertising from shows with gay themes. Remember these names and shop wisely when you go to the store.
Don't forget that we at GayWaves would appreciate your opinion on how we are portrayed in the media. Call us at WRUW at 368-2208 on Monday between 9:00 and 11:00 p.m. or call the station anytime and leave a message.
